About
saasmath is a set of free calculators and explainers for SaaS founders and operators. It exists because the good tools (Baremetrics, ChartMogul) are paywalled and the free ones (NerdWallet, SmartAsset) are for the wrong audience.
The site is built and maintained by one person. Nothing here is generated by an AI and shipped without a human reading it. Formulas cite the SaaS canon: David Skok, Brad Feld, Bessemer, Y Combinator, Carta. Where a formula is contested, the calculator says so.
Nguyen Dinh Ngoc (Jade) studies international economics at Foreign Trade University and taught himself the rest — production software, cloud infrastructure, AI-directed engineering. He built saasmath to close the gap between enterprise SaaS analytics (paywalled) and consumer-finance calculators (wrong audience). Economics for the framing; self-taught engineering for the shipping. Every calculator on this site is live and sourced on GitHub.
Why economics, not CS
International economics at Foreign Trade University trained me to reason about incentives, cost structures, and second-order effects before writing a line of code. The engineering side is self-taught: production TypeScript, Cloudflare edge deploys, AI-directed pipelines, the whole stack. Self-taught means I picked up every tool because I needed it, and I understand it end to end.
For a site about SaaS finance, that combination is the point. The formulas are financial; the runtime is engineering; the calculators need both to be right.
Editorial standards
- Every claim about a metric cites its source.
- Every formula matches at least one authoritative reference.
- Calculators show the formula they use, not a black box.
- Errors are corrected in place with a change note, not deleted.
What this is not
Not investment, tax, or legal advice. Not a substitute for a CFO or a lawyer. The math is the math; whether the input numbers are right is on you.
How the site pays for itself
Display ads (Google AdSense) and a small number of clearly disclosed affiliate links to tools the site actually recommends. No sponsored posts. No paid rankings. Full policy at /privacy.
Other things I've shipped
Portfolio and source code at nguyendinhngoc.dev. Every project there is live in production with source on GitHub — same rule as this site.
